Abour Ear Wax
Why do we have Ear Wax?
Ear wax is secreted by the sebaceous glands of the outer ear canal in order to protect your ears from dirt and germs. Your ears are self-cleaning and the wax that is produced is self-migratory: it gradually works it’s way up the canal towards the canal entrance. It is when this process fails that a troublesome build up of wax occurs.
What we do…
Our aim at Coastal Ear Health is to optimise your hearing and offer expert advice on wax management and hearing protection. At Coastal Ear Health we really understand how important your hearing is to you and those around you. We offer appointments within a clinical setting or within the comfort of your own home. Just let us know which works best for you. We provide the gold standard method of wax removal – Microsuction – as recommended by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence. It is considered the safest method of wax removal. We use a head-worn binocular microscope that allows for maximum visualisation of the ear canal. A small suction device is then used to gently remove the wax from your ear canal quickly and painlessly. It can be noisy, but if you find it uncomfortably loud just let us know and we will make adjustments to suit your individual needs.
